During the summer in Allentown, you can visit Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, which has several roller coasters, water rides, and a special kids area. Conveniently located off major highways, this is a bit hit with both locals and tourists! Another great activity is seeing the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, which play at Coca-Cola park. Or, see the fish at the Allentown Fish Hatchery, where trout are grown and can be seen in different stages. You can feed them and watch them grow, until they are released in the Lehigh River. Another hot spot is the PPL Center, where a variety of concerts and activities held year-round. It’s home to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Allentown’s Ice Hockey team.
In the winter months, there are several indoor museums and activities to enjoy. Mack Trucks Historical Museum is a local favorite, offering a glimpse into the history of Mack’s evolution to what they are today. America on Wheels Museum is another, with real displays that tell the story of the automobile and how it has changed over the years.
Cuisine is very popular in Allentown. Starting out with the Allentown Farmers Market, where you can find fresh produce, meats, and a variety of cooked foods, that offers something for everyone. That building (Ag-Hall), also serves as the location for The Great Allentown Fair, as well as weekly home-shows and special events. There are a variety of famous restaurants as well, which include Henry’s Salt of the Sea, Wert’s Café, Biaggio Pizzeria, Grille 3501, and Morgan’s. Too many to mention but lets just say you won’t go hungry in Allentown!
Aside from food and events, there are hiking and biking trails and outdoor activities where every age can enjoy the nature and beauty of this area. From the Lehigh Parkway, to the Ironton Bike Trail, to the various other nature and bike trails around, Allentown assures you will not be bored!
